About the role
Responsible for managing the retail operations and brand management of multiple niche fragrance brands in mainland China through approximately 30 points of sale, primarily located in Tier A shopping malls and department stores. This role involves driving performance optimization through detailed analytical insights, supporting strategic expansion into new premium retail locations, and ensuring both top-line growth and bottom-line profitability as a key distributor partner in the Chinese market.
Key Responsibilities
Take full responsibility for driving performance across all retail touchpoints, conducting detailed analysis of current performance based on individual store team members, product mix optimization, mall performance metrics, and competitive positioning within each location.
Lead strategic expansion initiatives into new Tier A shopping malls and department stores, managing all aspects of site selection, partnership negotiations, store setup coordination, and launch execution to grow the retail footprint.
Ensure team stability and operational excellence across all locations, implementing standardized processes, training programs, and performance management systems to maintain consistent brand standards.
Drive both top-line revenue growth and bottom-line profitability through inventory optimization, promotional planning, and cost management across the entire retail portfolio.
Serve as the primary liaison and relationship manager with key stakeholders including brand owners in China, ensuring alignment with global brand objectives and local market strategies.
Collaborate effectively with senior management, providing regular performance updates, strategic recommendations, and business planning insights.
Build and lead a high-performing internal team, establishing the right analytical processes, data collection systems, and operational frameworks to support business growth and decision-making.
Develop and execute comprehensive brand management strategies to strengthen market positioning and enhance brand recognition in the competitive Chinese fragrance market.
Monitor and analyse sales performance across all retail channels, identifying risks and opportunities to ensure consistent revenue growth and market share expansion.
Implement effective inventory management and supply chain coordination to optimize product availability, minimize stockouts, and reduce carrying costs across all locations.
Establish and maintain key partnerships with mall management, department store buyers, and other retail stakeholders to ensure optimal placement, visibility, and promotional support.
Uphold premium brand standards and ensure that all retail, marketing, and sales initiatives maintain the luxury positioning of the fragrance brands in the market.
Key Requirements
10-15 years in premium beauty brand management in China, with specific experience in fragrance brands preferred, or acceptable experience in skincare or color makeup categories.
Proven experience working within major beauty groups such as L'Oréal, Estée Lauder, Puig, or LVMH, demonstrating understanding of luxury beauty operations and brand management.
Strong track record in retail operations management, including multi-location oversight, performance optimization, and team leadership in premium retail environments.
Experience in building and implementing analytical processes, data collection systems, and performance measurement frameworks to drive business insights and decision-making.
Demonstrated success in stakeholder management, including brand owners, senior management, retail partners, and cross-functional teams in complex organizational structures.
Proven ability to drive both revenue growth and profitability improvement through strategic planning, operational excellence, and market expansion initiatives.
Experience in the Chinese retail landscape, particularly in Tier A shopping malls and department stores, with understanding of local market dynamics and consumer behavior.
Strong hands-on leadership approach with the ability to build teams from the ground up and establish operational processes in a distributor environment.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to develop creative solutions for performance optimization and business growth challenges.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English.
Track record of working independently in entrepreneurial environments while maintaining strong collaboration with multiple stakeholders and achieving results in fast-paced, dynamic markets.
