About the role
Our client is embarking on a transformative journey to create a new iconic landmark in Hong Kong—a world-class mixed-use destination that will redefine Hong Kong’s skyline and public experience. This is not just a development; it's the creation of a living, breathing cultural hub for the city. We are looking for a visionary creative leader to shape the soul of this space.
You will be the chief creative force behind the cultural identity and experiential narrative of the Theater. Your role is to conceive, curate, and direct a groundbreaking, multi-year program of large-scale public performances, immersive installations, and cultural activations that will engage the community, attract global attention, and establish this site as Asia's premier waterfront destination for arts and spectacle.
Key Responsibilities:
Vision & Curation:
Develop and articulate the overarching artistic vision and cultural strategy for the Harbourfront site, ensuring it reflects both Hong Kong's heritage and a forward-looking, global identity.
Programme Creation:
Design and direct a diverse, year-round portfolio of flagship events and permanent experiences. This includes, but is not limited to: large-scale outdoor spectacles, immersive theatre, light & sound festivals, digital art projections, participatory public art, and seasonal cultural programs.
Creative Leadership:
Lead, inspire, and manage a core creative team while collaborating with a wide network of world-class artists, designers, technologists, performers, and production companies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work seamlessly with internal stakeholders in architecture, design, leasing, marketing, and operations to ensure artistic concepts are integrated, feasible, and enhance the commercial and civic value of the development.
Production & Execution:
Oversee the end-to-end production of major events and installations, from concept and budgeting through to technical delivery, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and impact.
Requirements:
A proven creative leader with 10+ years of experience in a role such as Artistic Director, Creative Director (Experiential), Festival Director, or Director of Large-Scale Public Performances.
An exceptional portfolio showcasing your work on iconic, site-specific performing projects.
Deep understanding of placemaking and how cultural programming activates and defines public space.
Strong networks within the international and Asian arts, theatre, and experiential design communities.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate creative vision for diverse audiences.
Experience managing significant artistic budgets and complex, multi-disciplinary productions.
A passion for Hong Kong and its cultural future is a strong advantage. Proficiency in English is essential; Cantonese and/or Mandarin is highly preferred.
The Opportunity
Legacy Project:
This is a rare, once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the cultural heartbeat of Hong Kong's most prominent new waterfront district.
Creative Freedom & Scale:
You will have the platform, resources, and trust to realize visionary ideas on an unprecedented scale.
Impact:
Your work will be experienced by millions of local citizens and international visitors, leaving a lasting imprint on the city's cultural landscape.
Leadership Role:
You will be a key voice in the senior leadership team for one of Hong Kong's most prestigious developments.
