Full-Time Residential Butler
Location: Hong Kong Island (with occasional international travel)
Working Day: 5 Days per week with flexible Weekend support
Reports to: Family Office Director
About the role
The Butler will serve as the principal point of contact for all household operations and personal service needs of the principals and family. This is a classic, full-spectrum Butler role with strong emphasis on formal table service,household leadership, and anticipatory service in a modern, high-net-worth environment.
Responsibilities
Table Service & Dining Excellence
Plan, coordinate and personally execute formal and informal dining experiences
Full silver service, French service, and contemporary fine-dining presentation
Wine & beverage service (extensive knowledge of wine regions, vintages, decanting, pairing)
Menu planning and coordination with private chef / kitchen team
Management of table settings, crystal, silverware, and bespoke tableware collections
Seamless service during multi-course dinners, receptions, and high-profile events
Training and supervision of any additional service staff during larger events
2. Household Management & Leadership
Overall management and smooth daily operation of the residence
Supervision and coordination of household staff (housekeepers, chefs, drivers, gardeners, maintenance team)
Vendor management, quality control, and negotiation of household contracts
Inventory control of household supplies, wines, spirits, cigars, linens, and luxury goods
Maintenance of the principals’ personal wardrobes, accessories, luggage, and grooming items
Organisation of private events, dinners, and family gatherings (both in-residence and external venues)
Travel preparation and support (packing/unpacking, itinerary coordination, advance site visits)
3. Personal & Lifestyle Service
Anticipatory and discreet personal service to principals and family members
Management of principals’ personal calendars, appointments, and preferences
Errands, shopping, and sourcing of rare or specific items
Liaison with external service providers (tailors, physicians, private bankers, security, etc.)
Management of art, antiques, and valuable collections (basic care and coordination with specialists)
4. Security, Discretion & Protocol
Highest level of confidentiality and discretion at all times
Understanding of formal etiquette, international protocol, and cultural sensitivities
Coordination with family security team when required
Management of confidential guest lists and visitor protocols
Qualifications
Candidate Profile – Essential Requirements
Minimum10 – 15 years of professional experience as a qualified Butler in private households (high-net-worth families preferred)
Formal training from a recognised institution (e.g. The British Butler Institute, Ivor Spencer, The International Butler Academy, The Guild of Professional Butlers, or equivalent)
Demonstrated mastery of formal table service (silver service, wine service, cigar service, service à la russe / à la française)
Proven experience managing a full household team of Helper and Driver staff
Excellent spoken and written English (additional languages highly advantageous: Mandarin/Cantonese, French, or other European languages)
Flexibility for occasional international travel and irregular hours during events
References from previous principals required (will be thoroughly verified)
Highly Desirable (but not mandatory)
Formal wine qualification (WSET Level 3 or higher, Court of Master Sommeliers, etc.)
Experience managing high-value art, wine cellars, or luxury collections
Previous experience in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, or other major international wealth centres
Knowledge of modern smart-home systems and household technology
